At Diversity Serves, we are "connecting diverse communities through creating sustainable partnerships for cultivating prosperity and peace." Although this organization has its roots in community-based partnerships formed over the last four decades, we incorporated in September 2016 and became a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in January 2017. Currently we are raising funds for a variety of projects to benefit the people of Tonj, South Sudan, including housing and feeding programs for the children at Hope House ($15,000 in 2017), transportation for humanitarian efforts throughout the 525 square kilometers in Tonj ($20,000 in 2017), and an educational scholarship for a woman from Tonj to attend St. John's College in Wau, South Sudan ($5000 for a three year scholarship, to begin in 2017).
In addition to fundraising for worthy causes, we also offer interactive and engaging learning experiences for community gatherings, faith groups, professional organizations, educational settings from pre-school through graduate school. Besides our international partners, we also do work right here at home with a number of organizations in central Appalachia. and in the historic African American neighborhood of Gainsboro in Roanoke, Virginia. We look forward to hosting trips for groups of all ages to learn about and from partners in this region...and maybe one day, across the world!
